Your eyes do not deceive you. This is actually happening, GTA V is FREE to own on Epic Games Store, until May 21st.
This big piece of news started in a very quiet way last week. Checking the free games section of the Epic Store until today would show you that the next free game in line it's actually a mystery game. Today, this was confirmed to be, actually, the biggest game that can possibly be, and that is GTA V.
There is no need for description with this game, and even if it's 7 years old, we are still talking about the game with the highest production budget and the best selling game ever, that still goes strong today, especially because of GTA Online.
Epic Games Store has made the big move, allowing players that have an active account to just log in and get the game for free and then own it forever. The news was broken on the internet as soon as the counter for the reveal of the mystery game went out.
As soon as it became official everyone stormed the Epic Games Store, trying to get their hands on the game, which actually resulted in crashing their whole platform. The store is now down and it has been in this state for several hours, with user not being able to get in, nor via the desktop app or the website.
The situation became so bad that one quick survey over the internet shows that prior to the game going live the problems reports for the Epic Store were around 100 and then it jumped over 2500 in the first our of the announcement.
While the news is great and it's a huge chance to own the biggest game ever made, unfortunately, we still have to wait until things will get back in order. The good part about it all is that the game will be available for free for an entire week.
