After more than a year of hard work and internal overhaul trying to salvage something out of the disaster that Anthem came to be, both the developers from BioWare and the publishers from EA, have reach an agreement to finally shut down all work on Anthem.
The executive director of Anthem broke the news to the fans, the few who were still around, as a disappointing move for the players and that the decision was made due to a mix of factors like, the current pandemic and also the need to focus resources to other BioWare projects, like the upcoming Dragon Age.
Honestly, this move is not very surprising, taking a look at the fact that BioWare and EA messed up really big with Anthem, even right before the launch. The game was a massive disappointment, and even if there was a chance for redemption it would've been an excruciating task to complete. Taking into account the current pandemic, it was clear that was not to be the case, and after trying really hard to overhaul everything on the game, both parties finally gave up since they proved themselves that this would be a waste of resources, and it will affect development cycles for future games.
There is not all bad though. Even though the payer base is small and it seems to get smaller by the day, there are still people who enjoy Anthem, so there's no worry for them, because they will still be able to play the game as it's live service will continue for the near future, but it will just be the current form of the game and nothing more being added up, changed or improved.
There is a lot BioWare need to repair when it comes to any game bearing their signature, and over the years, they showed that they are a capable studio and able to do so, but a full stop on Anthem's overhaul and development was needed in order to preserve any reputation left and to focus on delivering the next best experience to the players.
