I must admit that the full series of events that Ubisoft has held and continue to hold regarding the new Assassin's Creed Valhalla might just sum up the the best reveal event they had when it comes to the series altogether.
After the official announcement during a live-stream with Boss Logic that was followed by a cinematic trailer, Ubisoft announced that they will show official gampleay during Xbox's next-gen gameplay showcase on May 7th.
Until we can lay our eyes on how the game will look we have some details about the the viking world.
Since the most successful times of viking history happened during the 9th century, that will be the time that we will jump in. The action will, of course, follow the vikings on their way out of Norway, onto the shores of England in their search for new lands.
The main character of the game is named Eivor, and as the series dived deeper with having two different protagonists, a male and a female, in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the same will happen here. Players will have the chance to choose the gender of the main hero and then jump in the action as the leader of a viking settlement in England facing tough opposition from the main antagonist, King Alfred of Wessex, and his Saxon army.
The settlement will play an important part in the full story of the game, with this aspect the game takes notes from previous installments like the Auditore Villa in Assassin's Creed II, The Homestead in Assassin's Creed III or the Great Inagua island in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
Besides the settlement, as we saw in the trailer, there are some viking ships present. This means that naval combat, one of the most important mechanics that was introduced to this series, is making a comeback and will have a bigger importance than in previous games like Odyssey, almost getting close to Black Flag levels. Also, melee combat mechanics will see an update with the introduction of dual wielding weapons.
Besides choosing the gender of Eivor, the main character will be fully customizable, being able to change their clothes, tattoos, warpaint, hair and gear.
In addition, the dialogue choices from Odyssey are coming back but this time they will carry more weight since they will have a huge impact on politics and how the new world will be shaped.
