In recent years, one of the most popular racing franchises got to enjoy a much deserved revival and it brought to our gaming devices a couple of good games.

From the reboot that happened in 2015 with Need for Speed, we got to play two more games Payback and Heat. Even if with this recent revival the series got a breath of fresh air, the response from the public wasn't as enthusiastic as it was expected, maybe for the reason that the fans lost their faith in the entire series after playing some disappointing games year after year.

Also, in this new revival of the series, the lead was taken by Ghost Games in terms of development. The studio based in Sweden was initially named EA Gothenburng, as a subdivision of EA, then it quickly got re-branded as Ghost Games form 2012 until this year when big changes came up. As EA struggled to attract more and more developing staff to Sweden it had to make some changes and renamed the studio to it's original name, and after they worked exclusively on Need for Speed games from 2013 to this day, the development of the series was handed back to Criterion Games.

Even if Criterion has worked on previous NFS games and the Burnout series and does have the experience, the latest titles of the series under their signature were 2013's NFS Rivals, and the disastrous Most Wanted reboot of 2012.

The news broke as it was announced today that NFS Heat, the latest game in the series is officially done as it gets its last update today which will allow cross-play between platforms. While the game is not officially dead, EA pulled the plug and it won't support the game with any further updates form now on as it seeks to change the direction of the series.
