Cloud gaming as a service still looks like a very promising idea. It might not be the same brilliant idea as it was in the beginning, due to many failures of some services, or their limitations, but its still a prospect for the future... for the time being.
Many of the negative views towards the subject are the fault of Stadia, Google's own attempt at getting ahead of the competition. Even though, Google has all the necessary resources to create a project of this magnitude, they lack in experience when it comes to the gaming industry, a thing that was shown time and time again, as the company managed most of the aspects of their service very poorly. What is even worse for Google, is that Stadia still has potential, but due to their management of the service the fan base is getting smaller and smaller.
Recently, Google Stadia shut down it's two internal developing studios in Montreal and Los Angeles. As one of the reasons for this shut down, the Google Stadia general manager, Phil Harrison pointed the fingers at Microsoft for the recent acquisition of Bethesda.
The big move made by Microsoft is set to bring huge blockbuster franchises to the Xbox portfolio, making their first party games list a jaw dropping one. Even though this move has no direct effect on other companies, Stadia is pointing out that this buying spree from Microsoft actually has an impact on their platform as it will affect the portfolio of games that they plan to create and release.
Even though nothing suggests that to be the case, Stadia keeps going on this track, but in reality, it just makes it seem like Google trying to deviate the blame on someone else for their lack of good management of the Stadia platform and not being able to secure a strong line-up of first party games that will keep all its users interested.
