GTA 6 is reported to be in development

During this last week, there have been reports in the internet regarding the long awaited sequel to GTA V.
According to a report from Kotaku, Rockstar Games has started working on a new GTA game, after a lot of changes have been made in the structure of the company, in the aftermath of the crunch culture being exposed.
It is reported that the studio's new title is in early development and is yet unclear if the the next game in the series will be, in fact GTA 6, or maybe a sort of a spin-off title, like it was in the case of Vice City or San Andreas, back in the 3D era.
The game could actually be a spin-off title, considering the information presented by Kotaku, after sources have told the website "start out with a moderately sized release (which, by Rockstar’s standards, would still be a large game) that is then expanded with regular updates over time, which may help mitigate stress and crunch." Since the studio's last released game was Red Dead Redemption 2, which took eight years to develop, it would be understandable for Rockstar to take this approach and for the next title to not be the grand GTA 6 everyone is expecting.
Even with all that information, we can't expect the game to come out soon. The attention to detail that Rockstar puts in their games is notorious and is going to be a long development process, that much is clear. Even if right now, in 2020, seven years passed with no new GTA game being released, which also makes for the biggest break between two games in the series, we still have much to wait.
This scenario might not be the one gamers want, but with the success that Rockstar had with GTA Online, starting work on a new game would've meant that the company could've miss on millions of dollars in profit from in game purchases. It's because of that reason that they focused attention on GTA Online and not a brand new game. Now... one can only hope that in the new working environment, thing will change a bit and we will be able to hear more news about a new game sooner rather than later.
